Hi, I'm Variant. I signed up one hell of a long time ago and my last post was slightly over a year ago, so since I'm pretty confident in the fact that nobody remembers me, I'm going to make another intro post. I hope nobody minds.

I like the number 7, Sega consoles, the ukulele (INSTRUMENT OF MY SOOOOOUL), and good web design. Also coding. I like to play music (messing around in LMMS is my secret passion), design stuff, play video games (although I'm notoriously bad at them ESPECIALLY ZELDA GAMES) and look at the stars. I also like to muck around and do whatever I want.

I joined in October '09, and I've been on a very steady inactivity streak that culminated in me neglecting to check out the forum for a year. YEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I live in Hawai'i, on the island of O'ahu, meaning I'm ~3000 miles away from anyone not in my state. I think. Shipping costs are horrible.

I used to lurk around the computer/website/programming area. You may find some of my posts there! I can't find any so whatever, sis and/or bro.

I'm an ex-admin of an almost-affiliate called Pokerealm, which still is operational and horribly active for some reason. For the sake of being totally awesome I'm not going to bother with the URL, especially since lol why should I

I hate Apple products, bad web design, Comic Sans, dubstep, something that starts with E to finish the chain, terribly-Autotuned voices, and spiders. Oh how I hate spiders. But I try to be not overly biased about things UNLESS IT COMES TO SPIDERS BECAUSE I HATE SPIDERS ASLFSDKLFJKLJASD I really hate spiders. I'm also not a fan of Zelda games because I'm bad at them, and I'm not a fan of the Elder Scrolls series because spiders.

That's pretty much it about me! I'm lost, scared, cold, and would definitely enjoy a flashlight right about now.

Man you have no idea. I was just sitting down on my couch playing my ukulele, finishing up a stupid recording that nobody will ever hear, and then all of a sudden HOLY ASKLDJFKLSJDF A SPIDER ON MY LAP

So logically, I flip out and smash everything in a 10-meter radius. THE SPIDER WAS, LIKE, THE SIZE OF MY PINKY FINGERNAIL, IT WAS SO HUUUUUGE

Yeah I'm technically a web designer. I like to do that stuff as a hobby, though, since once I have it turned into a job I'll be like "maaaaaaan this sucks and is boring kk" and probably will get fired lots.

Comic Sans should never have been in Microsoft's free font bundle. :I

OH HEY DO I GET TO RANT AGAIN?! I GET TO RANT AGAIN!

Comic Sans, as a font, is pretty much terrible, but at least it's not Wingdings. The ubiquity of the font, as well as excessive misuse, really ends up with many many people disliking the font. There are actually much better alternatives for everything Comic Sans is good at, and some of them come with newer computers.

Comic Sans was designed for usage in free comics, thanks to Microsoft's Comic Editor/Viewer/thingy that nobody has ever heard of. Unfortunately, if you really look at it, it's not particularly good for that either. Fonts that are free and are much better at it include anything you find on the internet by Blambot (Anime Ace and Mighty ZEO come to mind), as well as some other assorted fonts (Odaballoon and Sixtyseven come to mind). None of these come default in a computer, though.

In the elementary education department, Comic Sans is used, partially because it looks childish, and partially because it doesn't use that weird G shape or any weird head thing above the "a". For the former point, that should never be a reason to do anything unless you're me and want to gorge on like five hundred gallons of candy. For the latter point, Century Gothic (which came on my Windows 7 computer) would fit so much better.

Basically, the only thing I can think of that uses Comic Sans well is this beautiful comic. For the most part, though, there are many many fonts that can be used as alternatives to using Comic Sans. It's actually very much a hideous font that should never have been made default in a pack of free fonts.

I swear when I wrote this I thought it would be bigger. I do have many other reasons for disliking Comic Sans but those are pretty much the things I hear a lot that are pro-Comic Sans.
